Metallic stearate

Metallic stearates are metal salts of stearic and a long-chain fatty acid. They are generally white, hydrophobic powders with waxy or soapy textures.

Types of Metallic stearate

Calcium stearate: Anti-caking agent, lubricant, mold release.
Zinc stearate: Lubricant, release agent in plastics & rubber.
Magnesium stearate: Widely used as a pharmaceutical excipient (tablet lubricant).
Aluminium stearate:: Thickener in greases, paints.
Sodium stearate: Cosmetics, Personal Care, Pharmaceuticals, Plastics/Rubber industries & Laboratory uses.

Key Properties

Appearance: Fine, white powder, sometimes slightly greasy.
Solubility: Insoluble in water but dispersible, soluble in nonpolar solvents.
Hydrophobic & Lubricating nature: Gives slip and release properties.
Thermal stability: Some types (like calcium/zinc stearates) are heat stabilizers.
